Mercedes are set to launch a soft top model for the SLS supercar at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011.

It’s expected to use the same 563bhp 6.2-litre V8 AMG engine as the coupe. Not weighing significantly more than its sister model the soft top should therefore be reaching speeds approaching 200 mph and travelling from 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds.

Reports suggest that the roof will be electrically operated and made of canvas, with an aluminium frame underneath. It appears from photos taken during testing that Mercedes have opted for conventional hinged front doors unlike the retro-inspired vertical-opening Gullwing doors found on the coupe. The pictures also show that there are rollover hoops behind the seats to give extra safety.

If all goes to plan the car is expected to be in showrooms late in 2011 costing a mere £200,000.

This is a great show. For a car like Mercedes it is a nice event to showcase their specs and features so people can consider them. This Mercedes super car looks good especially the outer<br /> appearance.
